OCR: The Black Keys The Black Keys have two names, sharps and flats. The key is named with respect to the white key that appears to the right or left of it, it is called a flat if it appears to the left of the white key, and is named a sharp if it appears to the right of a white key. Therefore, C Sharp and D Flat are the same key. The distance between two keys of the same name is called an octave. Click on the Octave button for more information. Click on this box to close it.
